Wills and Estates

Making a Will

Having an up to date will is essential.  As well as simplifying the administration of an estate, it reduces the risks of litigation and disputes and it assures the smooth transfer of your assets to your loved ones. When making a Will, it is essential to benefit from sound legal advice and proper estate planning.

In drafting Wills, we focus on estate planning. Estate planning aims to simplify the administration of an estate and the transfer of its assets, as well as minimizing legal costs and reducing the tax liability on death.

We recommend that you review your Will from time to time to ensure that it still reflects your wishes and is still appropriate to your circumstances.

Our clients have the option to leave their original Will with us, for safekeeping. We securely store our clients’ Wills free of charge, for as long as the clients wish.

Our office currently holds all the wills of Mr. Paul F. Lalonde, who practiced with the firm Lalonde, Chartrand, Colonnier & O'Connor, as well as the wills of the late Rodrigue Landriault.

Powers of Attorney

Powers of attorney are, in our view, essential. We strongly encourage signing Powers of Attorney for Property and for Care.  These documents permit you to appoint someone that will make decisions for you if you become unable to do so yourself.

Powers of Attorney help to avoid major complications, delays and expenses. They greatly simplify the administration of someone’s affairs when that person unfortunately needs assistance in this regard.

Estate Administration

We work closely with the estate trustees (i.e. the executors) and assist them in completing all the work involved in administering an estate.

We are always available to answer questions and provide advice pertaining to Estate work.
